Aikido is the most modernized martial art coming from Japan. It was used to train the the warriors of Japan named the Samurai. Therefore Aikido is not only a martial but a System of Education with a Pedagogy inside.
AIKIDO (pronounced “eye-key dough”) is a modern Japanese martial way that uses martial training as a means of character development. Instead of meeting conflict with conflict or force with force, aikido attempts to blend in harmony with an attacker by using spiral movements. Its goal is to re-direct an attack, unbalance an attacker, and use an attackers force, energy and momentum to dispel the attack. Foremost, Aikido’s objective is to resolve conflict in the most peaceful means possible. It is Aikido’s grand goal that this philosophy extends beyond the training hall.
Aikido is not a sport. Tournaments and competition are not conducted. No trophies or medals are given. Aikido is a discipline, an educational process for training the mind, body, and spirit. Physical technique is not the final objective, but a tool for personal refinement and spiritual growth.
Everyone can practice Aikido. Specially as there is no use for strength or force women and children can practice Aikido easily.
You must come to the practice with comfortable training suits for the first time. Street cloths are not allowed on the mat. After a few practices when you are sure to take this way of happiness you can buy your own Dogi (clothes of the way).
You can start with any one of the classes that you see in the schedule. Aikido has the tradition of practice all together where the experts learn from beginners what not to do and beginners learn from the higher ranked students what exactly to do. The Sensei will take care of you and show you the way for Aikido.
